You’re Engaged! Now What?

We often are asked if our brides are booking vendors and completing tasks at the right time. It’s super important to make sure big pieces of your wedding day are taken care of first and some of the smaller details second. We put together a wedding planning timeline to help breakdown those details and to keep you on track!

10-12 Months Before
– Make A Guest List
– Choose your Wedding Party
– Research & contract a Wedding Planner
– Research & contract a Wedding Venue for ceremony and reception
– Research & contract caterer if not provided by venue
– Collect ideas & share Pinterest boards with visions
– Research & contract photographer
– Start trying on bridal gowns and purchase
– Research & contract room blocks at hotels for guests
– Schedule engagement shoot with photographer
– Make a wedding website with lodging, shuttles and registry

8-9 Months Before
– Start looking at & purchase bridesmaid dresses
– Research & contract reception bands or DJ
– Research & contract ceremony musicians
– Research & contract transportation companies for bridal party or guests
– Research & contract videographer
– Order and send out Save the Dates
– Research & contract dessert/cake vendors
– Research & contract hair/makeup stylists

6 Months Before
– Come up with decor, linens, rentals, visions
– Reserve or order men’s formal wear
– Secure a gift opening location for the day after
– Book hotel rooms for vendors if needed
– Schedule food tasting with cater
– Book hotel rooms for wedding night
– Research & contract rehearsal dinner venues
– Schedule bridal shower, bachelorette & bachelor parties
– Purchase bridal accessories

3-4 Months Before
– Order wedding Rings
– Book honeymoon & make sure passports are up to date
– Order wedding invitations
– Request hotel listings and add more rooms to block if necessary
– Purchase bridal party gifts
– Make a tentative schedule for the weekend- continue to edit
– Meet with officiant to discuss ceremony order of service
– Choose ceremony song selections
– Choose reception song selections (first dance, father daughter, mother son)
– Choose ceremony readings
– Setup wedding hashtag
– Try on wedding dress & schedule alterations

2 Months Before
– Walkthrough of reception space to ensure vision
– Obtain layout of the reception space/seating with venue/panner
– Schedule hair/makeup trial
– Mail wedding invitations (take to post office first to get weighed for proper postage)
– If renting tuxes/suits, ensure all measurements have been received
– Select and order ceremony programs
– Start day of stationery (menu, table numbers, seating charts)
– Purchase day of accessories (unity candle, toasting flutes, cake topper)
– Have bridesmaids try on dresses & schedule first alterations appointments
– Confirm rehearsal & rehearsal dinner time
– Purchase favors (if wanted)
– Ensure you have a Birth Certificate (you’ll need this for marriage license)

1 Month- 2 Weeks Before
– Schedule final dress fitting
– Obtain Marriage License
– Send out Rehearsal Dinner/Gift Opening invites
– Find/Purchase something old/new,borrowed/blue
– Plan welcome bags for out of town guests
– Receive final guest count
– Final guest counts to vendors
– Assign seating arrangements
– Request hotel room listing for welcome bag delivery
– Review wedding day schedule & share with vendors & bridal parties
– Give Photographers a must take list of pictures
– Give Bands/DJ a DO NOT PLAY LIST and MUST PLAY

2 Days Before
– Drop off welcome bags
– Pick up Mens wear
– Pick up dresses from bridal store for final pressing
– Relax, everything has been taken care of!

After the Wedding
– Obtain a copy of your marriage license
– Change your name with DMV, Social Security
– Send thank you cards
